What is PlantPaper made of?
Our products are made of 100% FSC® Certified, unbleached bamboo, harvested in southern China. Bamboo is one of the world’s fastest growing plants, capable of growing up to three feet in 24 hours. It requires little water, no fertilizer and regenerates on its own after cutting. The more regularly bamboo is harvested, the faster it grows.
PlantPaper toilet paper and tissues are Green Seal ® certified, meaning they’ve been independently verified to meet a rigorous standard for health and sustainability.
Is PlantPaper PFAs-free?
We routinely specifically test for PFAS compounds commonly associated with paper products and toilet paper — including fluorotelomer compounds such as 6:2 diPAP and 8:2 diPAP, as well as PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, PFDA, in addition to over 300 additional PFAS compounds — and all are non-detect in our testing panel.
Is it plastic-free? Yes, all PlantPaper products and packaging are made with zero plastics of any kind. We are 100% plastic-free throughout our supply chain.
Is PlantPaper bleach and formaldehyde free?
Yes, PlantPaper is 100% free of bleach and formaldehyde.
Until recently, almost all household paper products were made with chlorinated bleach, which, when combined with organic substances like tree pulp, produces dioxins, a class of highly toxic compounds considered “persistent organic pollutants” because of how difficult they are to eradicate. In the last few decades, as the damaging effects of bleach on our bodies and the environment became harder to ignore, paper mills in North America have largely switched to an ECF (Elemental Chlorine Free) process. This is an improvement over earlier methods, but numerous studies have confirmed that ECF bleaching still results in the formation of dioxins. That’s why we chose to make PlantPaper with zero bleach of any kind.
Studies suggest that some toilet paper products may contain formaldehyde. PlantPaper is lab-tested 100% free of formaldehyde. Feel free to email us for a copy of our test results!
